<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">'Sutra' is unlike anything I have ever seen before. I haven't been to many Dance productions, so I was intrigued as to what it was going to be like.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span>
</div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The production features real life <span style="text-align: center;"><span style="line-height: 21px;">Monks from the Shaolin Temple. It crosses Contemporary dance with martial arts and acrobatics, which makes it an incredibly interesting piece. Personally, I couldn't quite grasp any sense of story, but it had themes of freedom and isolation.</span></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: black; line-height: 21px;"><br /></span></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: black; line-height: 21px;">I'm not highly educated when it comes to dance, but I was definitely left in awe of the performers on stage. The whole company were incredibly talented and some of the skills they hold are unbelievable.</span></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: center;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: black; line-height: 21px;"></span></span></span><br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: black; line-height: 21px;">The stage was bare, with a grey cloth surrounding it. On stage,there were twenty one wooden boxes. These were incorporated into the majority of the piece. The performers would use these in an assortment of ways. Sometimes carrying them around, piling them on top of one and other, climbing on top and also even getting into them. I was constantly left guessing was they were going to do next. There were also some moments that made you gasp with disbelief, sometimes fearing for their safety. </span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: black; line-height: 21px;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 21px;">The music, written by </span><span style="line-height: 21px;">Szymon Brzoska, was executed beautifully by a live band. It really mixed well with the performance and brought the whole thing to life.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; line-height: 21px;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: black; line-height: 21px;">On a whole, the production was fantastic and performed to an extremely high standard.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: black; line-height: 21px;"><br /></span></span></div>

<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhndJLPORBFRa33WywBe8JvDJfyLUZY0I9Jr7AIPSH12GLLHiOQPnGZRSaPwIAjNPhQ5iZljY483HgtL1Pkxvt0FNDr9DHzES3yYoIc5hXL4br91pFox9uTCt0lxyUGzT1ZvT9BlyadfFY/s1600/rent-concert.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="225" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhndJLPORBFRa33WywBe8JvDJfyLUZY0I9Jr7AIPSH12GLLHiOQPnGZRSaPwIAjNPhQ5iZljY483HgtL1Pkxvt0FNDr9DHzES3yYoIc5hXL4br91pFox9uTCt0lxyUGzT1ZvT9BlyadfFY/s400/rent-concert.png" width="400" /></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As a fan of the show, I was incredibly excited to have the chance to see it performed again live in the theatre. <i>Rent </i>is such an empowering and moving show, its hard not to do it justice. Unfortunately for me, this production wasn't exactly the fine example I was hoping for. Don't get me wrong, I still enjoyed the show, it's hard not too, but it had its faults. </span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="background-color: black;">As it was billed as </span><i style="background-color: black;">Rent in Concert, </i><span style="background-color: black;">I wasn't expecting to see a fully staged production of the show, but by the interval I was left confused as to what is was exactly. The majority of the cast, seemed to be acting out the story, brilliantly I must add, and treating it like this was a low scale production of the musical, while others seemed to have no connection with the story and were simply treating it as a rock concert</span><span style="background-color: black;">. </span></span><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><span style="line-height: 14px; text-align: left; white-space: pre-wrap;">U</span><span style="line-height: 14px; text-align: left; white-space: pre-wrap;">nfortunately, poor direction left the show feeling under-rehearsed and inconsisten</span><span style="line-height: 14px; text-align: left; white-space: pre-wrap;">t.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<a name='more'></a></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Unfortunately for me, it was Rory Taylor <i>(Roger)</i> and Kerry Ellis <i>(Mimi)</i> who weakened the show slightly. Although both of them were vocally faultless, their connection to the material, and on-stage relationship with each other and the rest of the cast, was lacking. For me, I also felt Kerry wasn't suited to Mimi at all and would have shone a lot more, if she were in a different role. Fortunately, the rest of the cast, who were also vocally perfect, lacked no connection and for me, made the show.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span><br />
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></div>
<table cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="float: right; text-align: right;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuBUa2UBMcwH6mdyYe4qMlIgiX5j9MMI1vn6X8Gdu0o1JJbR8NgLrO2wvulVr4Sa9XKgT9OClt_NsHQXcFJUT-oeHil74mxG1qcx300eYK1So7-VWu2382DHayvnsIcG2uxJ4tMJCQA2A/s1600/BIxpHBjCEAE3TPL.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="212" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiuBUa2UBMcwH6mdyYe4qMlIgiX5j9MMI1vn6X8Gdu0o1JJbR8NgLrO2wvulVr4Sa9XKgT9OClt_NsHQXcFJUT-oeHil74mxG1qcx300eYK1So7-VWu2382DHayvnsIcG2uxJ4tMJCQA2A/s320/BIxpHBjCEAE3TPL.jpg" width="320" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;"><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: small;">Leon Lopez in <i>Rent in Concert </i><span style="line-height: 18px; text-align: left;">© Darren Bell</span></span></td></tr>
</tbody></table>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Stand out performances were Leon Lopez <i>(Collins)</i> and Ian Stroughair<i> (Angel)</i> who were both vocally impeccable. The chemistry between them both was so believable. Lopez's performance of <i>I'll Cover You (Reprise)</i> in Act 2 was heart-wrenchingly beautiful, so much it reduced me to tears. Other notable performances were Nikki Davis-Jones' <i>(Maureen)</i> hilarious version of <i>Over the Moon </i> and Tim Prottey-Jones' solo in <i>Seasons of Love, </i>which was insane and proves he deserves more than an Ensemble role.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Technically, the show was weak. At times, the band, which was brilliantly led by <span style="line-height: 17px;">Rosalind Jones, overpowered the vocals, which made it difficult to hear and understand the cast. Also, the lighting was poorly executed at times, leaving some cast members in total darkness, whilst singing solo.</span></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Overall, I would say it is still a great portrayal of Jonathan Larson's incredible work, portrayed by a cast of superb caliber and definitely still worth a watch, it just could of been so much more.</span></div>
<div style="text-align: center;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br /></span></div>

<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Last
night I was a part of History. I attended the private dress rehearsal
of the 20th Anniversary Production of Jonathan Harvey's 'Beautiful
Thing' at the Arts Theatre, London. At the start of the show,
producer Tom O'Connell came on stage to welcome us to this special
event. He asked us to keep in mind that this was a Dress Rehearsal, a
fact that I had completely forgot by the interval.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">For
those of you who may not know the play, “Beautiful
Thing is a glorious urban love story between two young men coming to
grips with their sexuality and the effect it has on the people in
their lives. </span><span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; line-height: 0.48cm;">It
tells the story of teenager Jamie's relationship with classmate and
neighbour Ste. Together the two boys find comedy, warmth and the
music of Mama Cass through their loud-mouthed next door neighbour
Leah. The play exquisitely depicts what it is to be sixteen, in the
first flush of love, and full of optimism.”</span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTUaJBq3RLSMZkPuPdheHajDqJAf2gUlYjB03955CE4aSdtaFb3tmeUTdXYHnA4Qkd9JBoLNUCmHz64oiIe1KmASXzDoCFHU4mS6w4KMFYsmzOCnyJfi-dihgw60uS59NlkJH508kqgfE/s1600/644472_177418732411270_1353232423_n.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="clear: right; float: right; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 1em;"><span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><img border="0" height="200" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgTUaJBq3RLSMZkPuPdheHajDqJAf2gUlYjB03955CE4aSdtaFb3tmeUTdXYHnA4Qkd9JBoLNUCmHz64oiIe1KmASXzDoCFHU4mS6w4KMFYsmzOCnyJfi-dihgw60uS59NlkJH508kqgfE/s200/644472_177418732411270_1353232423_n.jpg" width="200" /></span></span></a></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">As a fan
of the play anyway, I was extremely excited and intrigued to see this
production. It's safe to say, in no way was I disappointed. Every
aspect of the show came together beautifully, making the whole thing
so believable. Colin Richmond has done a fantastic job with the
design. Although fairly simple, he did a great job creating a set,
that was pleasing to the eye.</span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"><br />
</span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">The cast
on a whole, came together perfectly. Suranne Jones plays Jamie's mum,
Sandra. Her portrayal of this loud-mouthed, single
mother who
is more pre-occupied with ambitious plans to run her own <span style="background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;">pub
</span>and
an ever-changing string of lovers, is very well executed and
believable. Her comedic timing is superb. The first scene in Act 2,
between her and Jake Davies, who plays Jamie, was simply stunning.
The acting between both of them was so true, and made the
relationship between them seem so real. In fact, they reduced me to
tears.
</span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;"></span></span><br />
<a name='more'></a><span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">
</span></span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: black; color: white; font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif;">Oliver
Farnworth, who plays Sandra’s boyfriend Tony, and Zaraah Abraham’s,
who plays Leah, the 'slag' next door, both commanded the stage,
proving themselves to be great actor's.</span></div>
<div style="margin-bottom: 0cm; text-align: justify;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white;"><br />

<div style="border: 0px; clear: left; float: left; font-family: 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; font-size: 16px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">

<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white;">“Hear it, feel it secretly possess you” is exactly what this production does. I have to say, as a fan of the original London production I was in two minds about seeing the ‘re-worked’ tour. I was not disappointed. Although certain aspects of the original, in my opinion, worked so much better and did not need changing, in no way did it dampen my enjoyment.</span></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white;">After just over 25 years, some people may think “why fix something that’s not broken?”, which I agree with to a certain extent. What it does do though, is gives the show a fresh feeling, as though you were watching it for the first time all over again.</span></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white;">Although there was no falling chandelier in this production, the visuals were incredible. The new set design, by Paul Brown, was genius. Just as stunning as the original.</span></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white;">The thing that makes this production so brilliant though, were the outstanding cast, who have obviously worked so hard to bring this story to life. Katie Hall brings a fresh new take to Christine, and makes a more believable undiscovered talent. Her vocals were faultless, in which her rendition of ‘Think of me’ ended with rapturous applause. Simon Bailey, for me, played a rather bland and boring Raoul, which I’m not sure if I liked or not. Either way, he still brought something fresh to the role and is indeed a talented actor.</span></span><br />

<div style="border: 0px; font-family: 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white;">The true star of the show, in my opinion, was Earl Carpenter who played The Phantom. This man was perfect, everything The Phantom should be. Throughout the show, he made you feel scared of him, but by the final scene, he somehow made you feel so much compassion towards him. So much, I had tears strolling down my face, and chills down my spine.</span></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; font-family: 'helvetica neue', helvetica, arial, sans-serif; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
<span style="background-color: black;"><span style="color: white;">All in all, I would definitely recommend this production to anyone. “Turn your thoughts away from cold unfeeling light, and listen to the music of the night.”</span></span></div>
<div style="border: 0px; line-height: 25px; margin-bottom: 20px; outline: 0px; padding: 0px; vertical-align: baseline;">
